Finding the perfect necklace length can make all the difference in how your jewellery complements your style and attire. At Magpie Gems, we want to ensure that your silver necklace fits flawlessly, enhancing your natural beauty and adding that perfect touch of elegance to any outfit. Our comprehensive sizing chart will guide you in selecting the ideal necklace length for every occasion.

The standard length pictured may look different on each person depending on their age and body structure.
If you are unsure on the length, place a string around your neck and hold both ends by your chest where you want the charm to sit. Then measure the string.

Most common size for a necklace is the 45cm.

I would personally recommend a 35cm (14'') chain for a child, a 41cm (16'') for a young adult and 45cm (18'') or 50cm (20'') for an adult. But it is up to you to decide!

Necklace Lengths and How They Fit

  1. Choker (35-40 cm / 14-16 inches)

    • Fit: Sits tightly around the neck.
    • Style Tip: Perfect for a chic, modern look, chokers pair well with open-neck tops and dresses.
  2. Princess (45 cm / 18 inches)

    • Fit: Hangs just below the collarbone.
    • Style Tip: The most common length, ideal for both casual and formal wear. Perfect for pendants and adding a touch of elegance to any outfit.
  3. Matinee (50-60 cm / 20-24 inches)

    • Fit: Falls between the collarbone and the top of the bust.
    • Style Tip: Great for both business and casual attire. Adds sophistication to high-necked tops and blouses.
  4. Opera (70-90 cm / 28-36 inches)

    • Fit: Hangs below the bust.
    • Style Tip: Versatile for both day and evening wear. Can be worn as a single strand for a long, elegant look or doubled for a layered style.
  5. Rope (over 90 cm / 36 inches)

    • Fit: Drapes elegantly around the waist or higher, depending on length.
    • Style Tip: Perfect for creating a dramatic, fashionable statement. Can be looped multiple times to create a multi-strand look.

How to Measure for Your Necklace

To determine the best length for your silver necklace, follow these simple steps:

  1. Use a Flexible Measuring Tape: Place it around your neck to see where different lengths will fall. Alternatively, you can use a piece of string and measure it with a ruler.
  2. Consider Your Neck Size: Ensure the necklace will be comfortable, especially for shorter lengths like chokers.
  3. Think About Your Wardrobe: Consider the types of necklines you frequently wear to choose a length that complements your outfits.

Choosing the Right Necklace for Your Style

  • Casual Wear: For everyday wear, the Princess or Matinee lengths are versatile choices that can be paired with various outfits.
  • Formal Events: For special occasions, consider the elegance of an Opera or Rope length necklace, which can add a touch of sophistication to evening wear.
  • Layering: Experiment with different lengths to create a stylish layered look. Combining a Choker with a Matinee or Opera length can add depth and interest to your jewellery ensemble.
